A practical seminar was held in Ashgabat dedicated to sharing experiences in civil defense and emergency preparedness.

In accordance with the "Work Plan of the State Commission of Turkmenistan on Emergency Situations for 2026," a significant training seminar took place on January 15. The event, titled "Sharing Experience in Organizing Lessons on Civil Defense and Emergency Response Preparedness," brought together school teachers and specialists from across the country.

The seminar focused on improving training programs within educational institutions. Participants discussed effective methods for teaching protection against natural and man-made disasters. The primary goal is to move beyond theoretical knowledge and equip the younger generation with practical survival and mutual aid skills.

A highlight of the seminar was the active participation of experts from the National Red Crescent Society of Turkmenistan. The organization’s specialists provided detailed demonstrations on first aid techniques in emergency settings.

During the session, an NRCST expert stated:

"One of the most important pillars of our work is fostering a culture of safety among the population. As part of regional projects focused on emergency preparedness in Central Asia, we are conducting large-scale work in our country to prepare for earthquakes and natural disasters related to climate change."

The organization places a strong emphasis on inclusivity. Its educational and preventive initiatives specifically target:

  • Youth and school students;
  • Teachers and educators;
  • Women;
  • Children with disabilities.

The experts emphasized that the future of society depends on the awareness and readiness of its youth. By sharing accumulated expertise, the seminar helped integrate modern safety standards into the national curriculum, ensuring a more resilient and prepared community for the future.

THE FUNDAMENTAL PRINCIPLES

– Humanity

The International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, born of a desire to bring assistance
without discrimination to the wounded on the battlefield, endeavours, in its international and
national capacity, to prevent and alleviate human suffering wherever it may be found. Its purpose
is to protect life and health and to ensure respect for the human being. It promotes mutual
understanding, friendship, cooperation and lasting peace amongst all peoples.

– Impartiality

It makes no discrimination as to nationality, race, religious beliefs, class or political opinions. It
endeavors to relieve the suffering of individuals, being guided solely by their needs, and to give
priority to the most urgent cases of distress.

– Neutrality

In order to continue to enjoy the confidence of all, the Movement may not take sides in hostilities or
engage at any time in controversies of a political, racial, religious or ideological nature.

– Independence

The Movement is independent. The National Societies, while auxiliaries in the humanitarian services
of their governments and subject to the laws of their respective countries, must always maintain
their autonomy so that they may be able at all times to act in accordance with the principles of the
Movement.

– Voluntary service

It is a voluntary relief movement not prompted in any manner by desire for gain.

– Unity

There can be only one Red Cross or one Red Crescent Society in any one country. It must be open
to all. It must carry on its humanitarian work throughout its territory.

– Universality

The International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, in which all Societies have equal status
and share equal responsibilities and duties in helping each other, is worldwide.
