On October 2, 2025, a meeting dedicated to the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly and the Day of Older Persons was held in the conference hall of the Central Office of the National Red Crescent Society of Turkmenistan. The main purpose of the meeting was to widely promote Turkmenistan’s views on peace, security, sustainable development, environmental protection, and humanitarian cooperation.

The event was attended by employees of the central and regional branches of the NRCS of Turkmenistan, volunteers, and representatives of international organizations.
During the meeting, speeches were made on strengthening international cooperation, the importance of the policy of permanent neutrality, as well as ongoing projects aimed at addressing environmental and humanitarian issues in the Central Asian region.

It was emphasized that Turkmenistan’s initiatives within the framework of the United Nations are aimed at ensuring peace and sustainable development. In this regard, the country’s proposals in the fields of transport, energy, ecology, and international law were noted to be of great importance.

Speakers at the meeting paid special attention to the role of Turkmenistan’s policy of permanent neutrality in strengthening peace and trust throughout the world. They also highlighted the necessity of effectively implementing international initiatives such as “Women, Peace and Security” and “Youth, Peace and Security.” To further promote these issues on the international stage, Turkmenistan proposed the establishment of the International Day of Cultural Diversity and Multilingual Diplomacy, as well as the creation of a regional platform for young peacebuilders to foster mutual understanding and trust among peoples.

Turkmenistan’s active participation in the work of the UN will make it possible to develop new solutions in the fields of international law and peace. It is planned to declare the year 2028 as the “Year of International Law.” This initiative will serve to strengthen international law and act as an essential condition for peace and trust within the UN framework.

At the conclusion of the meeting, it was emphasized that Turkmenistan’s activities in the fields of peace, humanitarian cooperation, ecology, and sustainable development occupy an important place at the international level.

THE FUNDAMENTAL PRINCIPLES

– Humanity

The International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, born of a desire to bring assistance
without discrimination to the wounded on the battlefield, endeavours, in its international and
national capacity, to prevent and alleviate human suffering wherever it may be found. Its purpose
is to protect life and health and to ensure respect for the human being. It promotes mutual
understanding, friendship, cooperation and lasting peace amongst all peoples.

– Impartiality

It makes no discrimination as to nationality, race, religious beliefs, class or political opinions. It
endeavors to relieve the suffering of individuals, being guided solely by their needs, and to give
priority to the most urgent cases of distress.

– Neutrality

In order to continue to enjoy the confidence of all, the Movement may not take sides in hostilities or
engage at any time in controversies of a political, racial, religious or ideological nature.

– Independence

The Movement is independent. The National Societies, while auxiliaries in the humanitarian services
of their governments and subject to the laws of their respective countries, must always maintain
their autonomy so that they may be able at all times to act in accordance with the principles of the
Movement.

– Voluntary service

It is a voluntary relief movement not prompted in any manner by desire for gain.

– Unity

There can be only one Red Cross or one Red Crescent Society in any one country. It must be open
to all. It must carry on its humanitarian work throughout its territory.

– Universality

The International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, in which all Societies have equal status
and share equal responsibilities and duties in helping each other, is worldwide.
