Esteemed President of Turkmenistan

    Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov:

“National  society  of  the  Red  Crescent  of  Turkmenistan,  operating  since  1926

according to the main principles of the International Red Cross Movement and the

Red Crescent, namely: humanism, neutrality, independence and volunteering is

the reliable partner to the state on providing humanitarian help to the people of

Turkmenistan in a daily life and emergency situations”

Within the framework of the Global Fund project in Turkmenistan, the National Red Crescent Society of Turkmenistan, in cooperation with the United Nations Development Program, is implementing the project “Managing the Cycle of Social Assistance for TB Patients”. Within the framework of this project, the NRCST nurses provide psychosocial support for TB patients with multidrug-resistant (MDR) and extensively drug-resistant (XDR), and also conducts training sessions with them, where they inform patients about drugs and their side effects, about the TB treatment regimen. Arrange regular home appointments with patients. All of these activities are aimed at supporting the patient to complete their treatment. During the period of the project, many patients have successfully completed their treatment, having achieved a complete cure from the disease, and this is a significant contribution of the NRCST nurses. Treatment for drug-resistant tuberculosis lasts up to 2 years, during which time the patient must take pills daily. Treatment for tuberculosis has side effects, especially if the patient has other underlying medical conditions. But even with the most successful treatment, such a long course of treatment causes psychological fatigue, and not all patients have the willpower to continue treatment without additional support from outside. Various family circumstances of the patient may also affect treatment. That is, ensuring that every patient completes a full course of TB treatment is a daunting task that must take into account a range of medical, social and psychological factors. Patient support is tailored to the individual patient and her / his family. Here is what the patient Lyudmila E., who fell ill two years ago and now has been recovered, says: “Two years ago I was diagnosed with tuberculosis. Hearing the diagnosis, I fell into despair, all day long I was just lying. Yes, I took pills, but I did not believe in the success of the treatment. Today I am cured. In my success over the disease, there is a great merit of my attending doctors and the nurse of the NRCST Ataeva Bahar. Doctors observed the correctness of treatment and examination. And Bahar became my advisor, providing me with psychological support and infecting me with her cheerfulness, she helped me to overcome the most difficult periods of my illness. I would like to express my gratitude to the leader of the NRCST, because The NRCST provided me not only psychological support, but also assistance in the form of dairy and other food products. I did not overcome the disease alone, doctors and NRCST helped me comprehensively. Thank you very much!". The words of Lyudmila E. are an example of the impact of our humanitarian activities on the restoration of people's health and inspires us to continue these activities at a higher level.
